‘Star Wars’ Admiral Ackbar voice actor Erik Bauersfeld dies at 931 min read

Erik Bauersfeld, the voice actor behind cult Star Wars character Admiral Ackbar, has passed away at the age of 93.

Bauersfeld provided the voices for Rebel Alliance commander Admiral Ackbar and Jabba the Hutt’s steward Bib Fortuna in 1983’s Return of the Jedi before reprising the role of Ackbar in last year’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

His line “It’s a trap” from Return of the Jedi is beloved by fans and has become an internet meme. The hashtag #ItsATrap is being used on Twitter by fans paying their respects to Bauersfeld.

Speaking about his inspiration for the voice of Admiral Ackbar, Bauersfeld told the San Francisco Chronicle in 2011: “I saw the face, and I knew what he must sound like”.

Bauersfeld died on Sunday at his home in California, his manager has told The Associated Press.

A statement released by Coolwaters Productions, who represented Bauersfeld, reads: “Actor Erik Bauersfeld, known by Star Wars fans around globe as the voice of Admiral Ackbar, has passed away.”

“His passing comes at the age of 93 and the cause was natural causes. Erik will be deeply missed by his family here at Coolwaters and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.”
