Chris Hadfield launches photo book2 min read

Chris Hadfield, Canada‘s most famous astronaut, has launched a new photo book ‘You are Here: Around the World in 92 minutes’. This book is indeed very special as it is full of 200 never-before-seen photos of the Earth that were taken by Hadfield during a five-month mission aboard the International Space Station.

This book, he says, is a follow-up to his bestselling memoir An Astronaut‘s Guide to Life on Earth.

In an interview to The Early Edition‘s Rick Cluff, Hadfield spoke about the importance these photographs have for him. He said that to go around the world once, it takes 92 minutes and by this book he wanted to show how the world would look like in this time.

Along with all the photos Hadfield has also written some of his thoughts and personal feelings related to every particular image. This is so as Hadfield wanted his photo book to be like what is seen in an art gallery where one reads every single thing that’s written about that picture in a bid to understand what exactly was the artist thinking while making the picture.

In the photo introduction Hadfield has given a reminder to the people about how they should ‘make the most of the moment on this beautiful, strange, durable, yet fragile planet’. Explaining this Hadfield said in his interview that the world has been here since 4.5-billion years and there are immense natural processes that always happen and people learn more about them as time goes on.

Also, the earth supports seven billion of humans which is a very big inhaling, exhaling, excreting, food-consuming group and every single activity that humans do has an impact on earth. So, he says that humans need to be more responsible so much so that they move from the growth phase into the sustainability phase of things.
