NASA is also known for groundbreaking healthcare innovations, including the automatic implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (AICD). AICD is a permanent device in which a lead (wire) inserts into the right ventricle and monitors the heart rhythm.
The purpose of this tool is to stop the arrhythmia and help patients overcome life-threatening heart activities. Namely, AICD can successfully monitor heart rate and pinpoint arrhythmia in the earliest stages. The tool reacts by sending small electrical impulses to the heart so as to restore the functioning and take heart rate to normal.
According to the report, nearly half a million Americans succumb to sudden cardiac death every year: “Survivors face a 55% chance of a second heart attack. The invention of AICD, along with its many technological advances through the years, has lowered the recurrence rates of these heart attacks to less than 3%.
5, Smartphone cameras
